‘WRONG FOR LGE TO SHOW LETTER’
Finance minister should respect confidentiality, says Gerakan Youth chief
GERAKAN Youth chief Tan Keng Liang says the cabinet should view seriously the matter of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng revealing a letter from Kelantan seeking financial aid.
Tan yesterday asked if it was proper for communication between states and Putrajaya to be revealed in such a manner.
Tan was referring to a news report yesterday where Lim revealed a letter showing the Kelantan state government requesting for financial assistance from the Federal Government.
“I doubt PM @chedetofficial will ever publish letters written to him in this manner,” Tan said, referring to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Sharing a Twitter posting of the news article, Tan asked if it was right for the finance minister to reveal such a letter.
“Where is the confidentiality? I’m not taking sides but this is utterly wrong.”
Tan said Lim should respect the confidentiality of communication between states and the Federal Government, adding that there should be mutual trust between the two parties.
Earlier yesterday during a press conference, Lim said the Kelantan state government this year received RM22.5 million in an advance loan from the Federal Government to pay for its operational and management costs.
“They originally applied for RM24.5 million but the government approved RM22.5 million immediately so that their staff could be paid,” Lim said in the Parliament lobby yesterday.
