Better train services, more affordable homes

-

SHAH ALAM: The government has been urged to increase the facilities of the student matrix card, especially in terms of access to public transportation, under the 2019 Budget.

Public university student Nur Farhana Syahirah Mohd Azhar, 22, said undergraduates needed such facilities as they did not have income.

“I hope that the budget will see improved facilities so that we can use our student cards to buy tickets and pay for fares on public transportation,” she said.

Wan Arash Azzazi Johari, a 21year-old student at another public university, said he wanted to see an improvement in train services as it was the most common form of public transportation for students.

“I hope the budget will see allocations for the improvement of public transportation, especially the KTM Komuter, so that more carriages can be added.

“Students are sometimes late for classes due to the high volume of traffic during peak hours. This affects office workers, too. I hope the government will look into this as it has been going on for some time,” he said.

Civil servant Azizah Ahmad, 26, said she hoped to see plans to help the lower income group own their own homes.

“We hope the budget will take into account the welfare of the people in the lower income group, including increasing opportunities for them to own affordable homes,” she said.

Trader Mohd Amir Yusof echoed Azizah’s thoughts on more affordable homes.

“We hope that the government will also eliminate policies that favour certain people when it comes to who gets to purchase these homes.

“Everyone should be on equal footing when intending to purchase affordable homes,” he said.
