Johor Baru PKR members want chief to quit

-

PETALING JAYA: A group of Johor Baru PKR members is calling for division chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir to resign for allegedly asking others to vote for his “team” during the division election on Sept 30.

Richard Tan Wuu Chyau, who represented the members, demanded the party’s central election committee take action against Akmal for violating party regulations.

He said a stern warning would be insufficient as Akmal’s action was “clearly against the party principle”.

“During the election at the division level on Sept 30, Akmal entered the polling centre while showing the line-up of his shadow team.

“It showed he was disrespectful of the process of democracy.

“It was frustrating when Akmal was given a slap on the wrist with a warning following the complaint lodged with the committee.

“The offence warrants a suspension of his membership,” said Tan after submitting a memorandum on the matter at the party headquarters here yesterday.

Tan urged Akmal to withdraw from contesting the Youth chief post.

Committee chairman Datuk Rashid Din confirmed receiving the memorandum.

“However, the committee has decided to stand by its decision of issuing a stern warning to Akmal,” he said.

A 21-second video, which went viral, shows Akmal entering the polling centre and asking people to vote for leaders in his team.

Akmal went on to defeat Tan and won the division chief post.
