Rashid hopes to get smashing support for academy

- Helmi Talkah

Affairs Badminton Academy head coach Rashid Sidek hopes to work out a “winwin situation” with the various parties and sponsors in the sport.

The b a dminton great made it clear that funding is a key issue for the club, who have alre ady spent large sums to develop talent that can be further developed.

Thus, he hopes the Sports Ministry, National Sports Council, BA of Malaysia and the corporate sector can lend their support.

“We have no issues working together with any party. We can train players and if they have the potential, BAM can take them because we know there (BAM) is the place for them to take it to the next level.

“But clubs also have to spend a lot of money (on players) before their talent really comes through so we are hoping to see some returns if BAM do take the player after that.”

Rashid was speaking in response to BAM offering one of his charges, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin a place in the national body. Aidil has accepted, and will join BAM on Dec 3.

“I am happy that Aidil has attracted interest and subsequently given an offer by BAM. This is a good start to his career and is also a form of recognition to myself and the club.

“More importantly, this proves that the club is serious in developing the sport in the country. We train players who were not given attention or failed to enter the sports school system and develop them into players with potential.

“So (hopefully) we can receive some assistance, even if it is not much.”
