-

ALOR SETAR: Kedah PKR secretary is being remanded for seven days until Oct 31 to facilitate investigation into alleged money politics during the recent party divisions election.

The remand order against the 59-year-old was issued by Alor Star magistrate’s courts assistant registrar Jamaludin Elias following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency.

The suspect, who was the party candidate for the Bukit Pinang state seat during the 14th General Election was seen escorted by two Kedah MACC officers at the court.

It is the learnt that he was arrested at 4.10pm yesterday after surrendering himself at the state MACC office.

A source said the suspect, along with two men, aged 46 and 48, had been detained last month for allegedly demanding RM20,000 from a man as inducement for the latter’s name to be included in the system and registered as a party election candidate.

The suspect has previously informed the victim that his name, along with those of several others, was initially dropped from the list of candidates.

He had told the victim that he could help overcome this obstacle if he was given incentive.

Kedah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohamad said the man was being remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 16(a)(A) of MACC Act 2009.
