‘Teachers in sexual misconduct cases to face the music’

-

KEPALA BATAS: The Education Ministry will take action against any teachers involved in sexual misconduct cases.

Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching said the ministry would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against those involved when such cases had been decided by the court.

“The ministry will not compromise on sexual crime cases involving teachers,” she said after visiting a new school project site in Bandar Putra Bertam here yesterday.

She said this when asked to comment on a principal of a school here, who had been remanded for allegedly sodomising a Year Five pupil and a Form One student.

She said the teacher involved would be stationed at the District Education Office until the police investigation was completed.

“When the investigation is over, disciplinary procedures will be initiated.

“We encourage victims to come forward to lodge a report, either with the district office or the ministry,” she said, adding that counselling would be provided to victims.

The remand order for the principal has been extended for another three days to facilitate investigations.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the 55-year-old’s remand expired yesterday.

He was arrested on Thursday.
