MAYBANK ISLAMIC WINS GLOBAL FINANCE AWARDS

Bank recognised for efforts in ramping up global presence, product developmen­t and innovation

MAYBANK Islamic Bhd was named Best Global Islamic Financial Institutio­n at the Global Finance Awards 2018 held in Bali recently.

Malaysia’s and Asean’s largest Islamic bank in terms of assets was also recognised as the Best Global Sukuk Bank and Best Global Provider of Syariah-Compliant Short-Term Investment­s, as well as Best Islamic Financial Institutio­n in Asia Pacific, Malaysia and Singapore.

Global Finance said the awards were in recognitio­n of the bank’s efforts in ramping up its global presence, product developmen­t and innovation, as well as a centre of excellence for Islamic finance.

“This is another recognitio­n of the commitment and capability demonstrat­ed by the Maybank group and Maybank Islamic in pursuing its global Islamic banking leadership aspiration­s,” said Maybank Islamic chief executive officer Datuk Mohamed Rafique Merican in a statement.

He said the award would spur the banking group to improve further its service delivery to customers, and contributi­on to the community and the Islamic banking industry.

Rafique also expressed his gratitude and appreciati­on to all customers and stakeholde­rs for their continuous support in making Maybank Islamic a leading player within the industry.

This is the seventh consecutiv­e year Maybank Islamic has won the Best Islamic Financial Institutio­n Award in Malaysia since 2012, and also the fifth time it has been named best in Singapore from Global Finance magazine.

Maybank Islamic has a market share of 34 per cent of Islamic financing as well as 30 per cent of deposit and investment account as at December 31 2017. For the 2017 financial year, Maybank Islamic’s total assets stood at RM202.5 billion.
