Cops launch manhunt for hubby of woman hacked to death

-

KINABATANGAN: A woman was found dead with slash wounds on the head, face and arms at Pintasan Plantation, near here, on Saturday.

The 27-year-old was believed to have been hacked by her husband.

District police chief Superintendent A. Sahak Rahmat said initial investigations showed that the victim started working in the plantation a month ago.

Her husband was unemployed, he added.

“The victim worked as a palm fruit picker and the couple have no identification papers.

“The woman was found sprawled in the living room,” he said yesterday.

Sahak said the victim’s right wrist was badly hacked and three fingers were chopped off.

“We found the fingers in the kitchen.

“We believe the weapon used was a machete belonging to her husband.

“Neighbours said they did not hear any noise or argument coming from the house.”

The neighbours, however, saw the suspect acting suspiciously while holding a machete outside the house at 8am.

Sahak said the neighbours, fearing something untoward had occurred, tried to apprehend the suspect.

The suspect bolted and the neighbours gave chase.

However, the suspect fled towards a river. The neighbours checked the couple’s house and found the victim.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
