Irfan not happy with man-of-the-match decision

-

angry Terengganu coach Irfan Bakti has served up a controversy by claiming that Perak’s Brendan Gan should not have been named man-of-the-match for Saturday’s Malaysia Cup final.

The 67-year-old said his midfielder Faiz Nasir was the best player on the pitch at the Shah Alam Stadium.

“Faiz should have been honoured with the award, not Brendan. Maybe, Brendan was picked because he scored the gamechanging last minute equaliser for Perak.

“I really don’t know who chose him (Brendan),” said Irfan.

On Saturday, Irfan’s team led 2-0 with a dominant first half display.

However, Perak fought back for a 3-3 draw after 120 minutes before they won 4-1 on penalties.

“We should have killed off Perak in the first half. The half-time score should have been 3-0,” said Irfan.

Following Tchetche Kipre’s brace, Terengganu missed several open chances through J. Partiban and Abdul Malik Mat Ariff before the breather.

“We depended entirely on Kipre for goals. Partiban and Malik were not composed in front of goal. They missed point-blank chances,” said Irfan, adding that he will be looking for players for the new season.

“We did not lose today in terms of performance. We may have not won the title, but I would like to praise the players for their performances.”
