Bersatu shuts the door on Pekan, Bagan Datuk, Baling, Padang Rengas MPs
Party will not accept Pekan, Bagan Datuk, Baling and Padang Rengas reps, says Mukhriz
PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) doors are closed to four Umno members of parliament. PPBM deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said although the party was open to anyone, it did not welcome Umno’s Pekan, Bagan Datuk, Baling and Padang Rengas MPs into its fold.
“We are not that open that we will allow Pekan MP (Datuk Seri Najib Razak), Bagan Datuk MP (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi), Baling MP (Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim) and Padang Rengas MP (Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz) to join the party.
“They can’t because they are on the list of people we won’t consider,” Mukhriz said.
The Kedah menteri besar said PPBM had 14 MPs in Parliament.
“For other MPs and assemblymen, they are more than welcome to join us if they wish to do so — on the condition they kick the bad practices when they were in Umno and support the new political culture in Pakatan Harapan (PH),” he said after attending the Kedah women’s football team jersey handover ceremony at Wisma Darul Aman here yesterday.
PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had mentioned the party’s readiness to accept new members, on the condition that certain criteria must be met.
Mukhriz said PPBM vetted its membership applications to maintain its integrity and ensure that it remained relevant.
Citing the example of former Umno leader Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who recently joined PPBM, Mukhriz said the Jeli MP was known as a professional, adding that the party did not take long to consider his membership application.
