‘Mustapa leaving no big loss to Umno’
KOTA BARU: Kelantan Umno does not consider Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed’s move to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) a big loss to the party.
Kelantan Umno information chief Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad said the departure of the Air Lanas assemblyman was just another political issue.
“In politics, we don’t make enemies, we only disagree over things.
“He (Mustapa) opted to leave. That’s his choice.
“We do not agree with his move. We feel disheartened and disappointed.
“However, he may have his reasons for joining PPBM.
“We have been painting the wrong picture of Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
“He’s no icon. He’s just an ordinary person... There’s nothing special about him.”
Alwi said this outside the Kelantan State Assembly sitting here yesterday.
The media had reported that Mustapa, who is Jeli member of parliament, was moving to PPBM, after almost a month leaving Umno.
Alwi, who is Kelantan state opposition leader, said Mustapa had hopped twice, from Umno to an independent candidate, and now PPBM.
“In the past, we had only two seats in Kelantan. Then it went up to six, 12 and now back to eight. That’s normal.
“But I’m disappointed he (Mustapa) is not here today (yesterday). If he is here, we can ask him why he did it. Anyway, what’s done is done.”
Mustapa, who is the sole representative of the PPBM in Kelantan, was absent from the State Legislative assembly yesterday.
It is learnt that the former member of the Umno Supreme Council had an urgent matter to attend to in Kuala Lumpur.
