HIDDEN CAMERA FOUND IN EATERY RESTROOM
Clip of discovery at KL mamak restaurant goes viral
AHIDDEN camera was discovered in the restroom of a mamak restaurant here recently, and Netizens are in an uproar.
A video clip of the discovery — presumably shot by one of the eatery’s patrons — has gone viral and garnered more than 33,000 views since it was uploaded on Oct 27.
The footage shows one of several men in the bathroom removing what appears to be a runof-the-mill plastic wall hook affixed to a door of one of the stalls.
But a closer look at the hook reveals that it is a sophisticated camouflaged spycam, and the man points out its pinhole camera, battery and on/off switch.
Commenters have expressed disbelief and outrage over the find and advised each other to either keep an eye out for suspicious objects when using public toilets, or to confine doing one’s business to private bathrooms.
Some blamed the owner of the restaurant, though the more reasonable urged others not to jump to conclusions.
“Many use these restrooms. Just because it (the camera) was in the restaurant’s restroom doesn’t mean the workers or owner put it up,” said one commenter.
Some cautioned others to be careful in changing rooms at shopping malls or shops, as well as hotel rooms, citing instances of two-way mirrors being used to hide spycams.
Efforts to get comments from Kuala Lumpur police have proved futile.
