‘More Umno MPs from east coast will join PH’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A senior Pakatan Harapan leader has hinted that more Umno members of parliament (MPs) from the east coast will follow in the footsteps of Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and join the ruling government soon.

Terengganu Pakatan Harapan chairman Senator Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad said this could possibly occur after the tabling of the 2019 Budget in Parliament on Friday.

“There are rumours that maybe more (MPs) will join us (PH). In (Terengganu), we hear that. We have been told there are movements, some deals going on. We will wait and see.”

He said this after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding for affordable homes for the middle-income group between Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd and developer TS Asia Ventures Sdn Bhd in his capacity as deputy housing and local government minister.

Asked if the east coast MPs he was talking about were two from Terengganu who were rumoured to be leaving Umno, Raja Kamarul declined to elaborate.

However, he did say he was close to these two MPs, with whom he often played football.

He said he was confident that the rumoured MPs planned to jump ship because they wanted to help their constituents.

“They have to look at things from the perspective of the greater good, to rebuild Malaysia.

“I am confident that it is not just PH, but Umno as well, that wish to rebuild the nation for the good of all.”
