Nurul Izzah: Sabah vital in determining central leadership

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has a crucial role to play in determining the leadership of PKR in the party polls, said vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

She said PKR Sabah was important as it had the second largest membership after Selangor, which would prove to be a key factor in determining the party’s central leadership lineup.

“As such, the people of Sabah have been ‘anointed’ to chart the future of our party.

“We ask for their continued support,” she said after visiting several polling centres here yesterday.

Present was Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Christina Liew.

Sabah PKR has about 150,000 members in 25 divisions, second only to Selangor, which has about 220,000 members.

Twelve divisions in Sabah held their polls yesterday. The rest will be held today.

Nurul Izzah said PKR leaders had attended courses to better understand the issues in Sabah and Sarawak.

“The courses taught us how to observe and respect people from both states, especially Sabah.”

Nurul Izzah, who is defending the vice-president’s post, said Sabah had consistently recorded high voter turnouts for party elections compared with other states.

“This can be attributed to PKR focusing its agenda on Sabah and it also symbolises that party members are well taken care of.”

On the election process in Sabah, Nurul Izzah acknowledged that there were challenges faced by the voters.

She said those issues would be taken to the central committee so that the election process could be improved.
