Education Ministry to form team to execute initiatives
PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry will form a steering committee to fine-tune the things that have been listed in the 2019 Budget, said its minister, Dr Maszlee Malik.
Headed by the ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Dr Mohd Gazali Abas, Maszlee said the committee would report to him the updates and execution on a regular basis.
He added that there were 12 primary initiatives, which it would embark on, and several other initiatives that would be done with the cooperation from other ministries and agencies, at the federal- and state-levels, including the Inland Revenue Board.
“After the post-cabinet meeting held last night (Friday), I instructed the ministry’s management to take steps to implement this initiative.
“The ministry will issue statements from time to time on the execution of every initiative, especially on the RM2.9 billion education aid,” said Maszlee yesterday.
The education aid for the poor will focus on food, textbooks and cash.
Maszlee listed another allocation, which involved RM652 million, to upgrade and maintain all schools.
The ministry received the lion’s share of the Budget with an allocation of RM60.2 billion.
Other initiatives under the ministry for the Budget include RM100 million to rebuild dilapidated schools; RM70 million for a new Malaysia Future Leadership School (MFLS) programme for youth aged between 15 and 30 to instil moral values and patriotism; and RM17.5 million for the period of five years to the Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre to produce 600 Bumiputera accountants as the nation strives to generate 3,000 registered Bumiputera accountants.
Maszlee said the ministry would execute the initiatives based on the principles of transparency and accountability.
