Heavy rain, rough seas in 3 states

KUALA TERENGGANU: Heavy rain and rough seas have been forecast for Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang for the past two days.

The Malaysian Meteorolog­ical Department’s website (www.met.gov.my) issued the warning to the public and seafarers.

The department’s statement listed Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Baru, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai (in Kelantan); all of Terengganu, and Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin (in Pahang) as areas to be affected until today.

It issued a second-category warning of strong northeaste­rly winds of 50kph to 60kph, with waves of up to 4.5m off the east of Condore, northeast of Bunguran, west of North Reef and northwest of South Reef in the South China Sea, which were expected to last until last night.

“It is dangeorus to conduct shipping and coastal activities, including fishing and ferry services, in such a condition.”

It issued a first-category warning of strong north-easterly winds of 40kph to 50kph, with waves of up to 3.5m off south of Samui, Tioman, Bunguran, west of Condore, South Reef, east of North Reef, Layang-Layang, Labuan and Palawan until last night.

Thundersto­rms, heavy rain and strong winds over the Straits of Malacca, Tioman, Samui, Condore, Bunguran, South Reef, North Reef, Sulu, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, western Sarawak and eastern Sabah were expected until 2pm yesterday.
