KOTA KINABALU: The race for the PKR deputy president post saw Datuk Seri Azmin Ali still ahead of his contender, Rafizi Ramli, in the party’s second round of election in Sabah yesterday.

Based on source information, Azmin is leading by a majority of 1,467 votes after securing 4,366 votes, compared with Rafizi’s 2,899 votes, in 11 divisions elections.

Azmin has won in eight divisions — Beluran, Putatan, Kudat, Papar, Silam, Ranau, Kota Belud and Kinabatangan — while Rafizi won in Penampang, Semporna and Kimanis.

Results from two more divisions, Pensiangan and Tenom, are not available.

It is learnt that the election process at the two divisions were ongoing after 4pm.

Sabah PKR coordinator Rosli Masaliku said the PKR Central Election Committee had to extend voting in Pensianganan and Tenom due to the high number of voters.

“Hence, the counting of votes will take time and the result is expected to be revealed late.

“We have the results from other divisions, but the party’s Central Election Committee has not made an official (overall) announcement.”

In the first round of election, involving 11 divisions on Saturday, the unofficial result showed Azmin winning in Libaran, Sandakan, Kalabakan, Sepanggar, Beaufort and Tawau.

Rafizi won in Kota Kinabalu, Batu Sapi, Tuaran, Sipitang and Kota Marudu.

Thus far, after the second round of election in the state, the unofficial result saw Azmin obtaining 59,195 overall votes compared with Rafizi’s 55,583 votes.

On Saturday, the polling in Keningau was halted following a commotion involving Rafizi.

A re-election for the division is expected after the party central election committee identified a new location for the election centre.
