A3-YEAR-OLD boy died at Ampang Hospital here at noon on Thursday while being treated for severe injuries, believed to have been inflicted by his stepfather.

The toddler’s injuries included a fractured skull and bruises on his body.

“The victim, who was unconscious, was brought by his mother and stepfather to Ampang Hospital’s Emergency Department. He had wounds and bruises to the face, stomach, chest and back.

“Medical officers tended to the boy for 30 minutes before he was pronounced dead. They then lodged a report,” Ampang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hamzah Alias said.

He said the couple left immediately after sending the boy to the hospital.

“We are looking for them.” He said the case had been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The stepfather’s younger brother, Khairul Mustaffa Khairuddin, 30, said the suspect had mental issues and had been arrested by police before, but was released.

His brother, he said, had been involved in fights with their mother.

Khairul said following the argument, he called the police, who arrested the suspect.

“He was acting strange. After he was released by police, he went back to his home in Bukit Indah.

“We were stunned by the news. I hope he will turn himself in. If he does have a mental problem, let the hospital look into it.”
