PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing Malaysia and Hong Leong Yamaha teamed up for the first time to organise a convoy of over 1,000 bikes from Cyberjaya to Sepang to catch last weekend’s Malaysian MotoGP at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

The 40km ride was flagged off at TSI Arena in Cyberjaya by Petronas vicepresident (Downstream Business) Datuk Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Tahir, Hong Leong Yamaha managing director Datuk Jim Khor and Petronas Lubricant International (PLI) Asia Pacific head Mohd Khalid Mohamed Latiff.

“It is great to see enthusiastic bikers supporting the biggest motorsport event in the country. Motorcyclists are important to Petronas as our technology from the race track is translated into motorcycle lubricant products we developed for bikes on the road,” said Syed Zainal Abidin

He said the riders’ feedback on its products were important as they allow the company to improve its products.

Petronas offered exciting activities for some 10,000 people, who visited the Petronas Experience booth at the SIC. Visitors had the chance to participate in a 5D MotoGP experience, Petronas Sprinta UltraFlex Challenge, while also purchasing exclusive Petronas merchandise and win free premium giveaways.

The Petronas Experience also included a meet-and-greet with riders of Petronas’ two teams — Petronas Sprinta Racing Moto2 and Petronas Sprinta Racing Moto3.

Petronas is the first oil company in the world to sponsor all classes in World MotoGP Championship where in 2019 Petronas, Yamaha and Sepang Circuit signed Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quatararo up for the MotoGP team.

Hafizh Syahrin, the first Malaysian MotoGP rider of the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 had previously been a full-season rider in Moto2 with Petronas Raceline.

A record 103,984 people attended the 2018 Motorcycle Grand Prix last weekend, up from some 97,000 last year.
