KOTA BARU: Regent of Kelantan Dr Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra yesterday urged the state government to boost cooperation with the Federal Government for the betterment of the people.

He said the cooperation between the federal and state governments was stated in the Constitution (Schedule 9).

“Kelantan must be developed like other states so that Malaysia can reach the status of a developed country. The state government must work hard to resolve the people’s problems,” he said at Istana Balai Besar here.

Speaking at the investiture held in conjunction with Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V’s 49th birthday, he hoped the state government would attract more investors to boost the state’s economy.

“I was informed that the state government is planning to create an industrial town for furniture and timber.

“The move is necessary as Kelantan has a lot of resources.”

Tengku Muhammad Faiz urged the state development to emphasise environmental sustainability.

He hoped the Federal Government could speed up the upgrading of the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa, the Sungai Golok flood-mitigation project, as well as the Sungai Kelantan integrated river basin development project.

A total of 602 recipients were conferred awards and medals. Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir headed the list of recipients.
