PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali reminded party members to strengthen unity following the elections to weather external challenges.

Quoting former United Kingdom prime minister Sir Winston Churchill, Azmin said the renowned political figure had stressed that when there was no enemy within, the enemies outside wouldn’t be able to inflict harm.

“Let’s stand together as one, be united and dedicated to move forward.

“I want to congratulate more than 150,000 of our members who played their role in the democratic process and chose the party leadership recently.

“Leaders and candidates gave their services to the party across the country, from Sungai Petani to Johor Baru, Gombak to Pandan and over the South China Sea to Tawau, Pensiangan and Julau.”

He said this when officiating the party’s Women and Youth annual congress at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam last night.

Present were PKR Women head Zuraida Kamarudin, Youth head Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Central Leadership Council nominee Amirudin Shari.

Azmin said he hoped the spirit shown by party members was not temporary to tackle the party’s struggles, especially in Sarawak, which would face the state elections soon.

He said PKR did not only want to maintain the party’s victory in Ba’kelalan, Kerian and Batu Lintang, but also aimed to boost the majority in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly.

“I want to invite brothers and sisters to meet in Sarawak after the congress because the people in Sarawak are waiting for us to bring changes at the state elections.”
