TWO of Cantopop’s biggest stars will share the stage for the first time in a mega concert on Dec 22 at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. They are none other than Alan Tam Wing Lun and Samuel Hui Kun Kit who quickly became household names when they burst into the Cantonese music scene in the mid1970s.

They will be performing together in Singapore and Malaysia, following a successful run of their joint Sam & Tam — Happy Together concert series in their home country last year.

Besides performing some duets, they will also sing a selection of each other’s biggest hits.

Tam, who has written more than 800 songs throughout his career, has also starred in films. He began as the lead singer of five-member pop group The Wynners whose other prominent member was singer-actor Kenny Bee.

Tam’s most popular songs include Love In Autumn, Love Trap and Fantasy.

In 2007, he was the recipient of the 30th Hall of Fame Award from the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong.

After the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, Tam helped set up a relief committee to look after the livelihood and schooling of orphaned children. He was joined by other Hong Kong artistes such as Jackie Chan and Eric Tsang.

Hui, a social science graduate from the University of Hong Kong, is widely considered to be the first major Cantopop star.

He is one of the three Hui brothers in Hong Kong showbiz, the other two being his elder brothers, comedians Michael Hui Kun Mun and the late Ricky Hui Kun Ying.

With 23 albums to his credit, his best known songs include From The Heart Of A Loafer, Aces Go Places Tsim Sha Tsui Suzie.

Hui had a taste of the big screen when he acted with his brothers in iconic comedy films such as The Private Eyes and Chicken And Duck Talk.

His best known movie series however was Aces Go Places, in which he co-starred with Karl Mak Kar Sheung.

Tickets are priced between RM238 and RM888 (excluding RM4 ticket processing fee). Time: 8.30pm.
