DEEPAVALI is one of the main national celebrations in Malaysia. It is also called “Diwali”, or Festival of Lights, which falls on Nov 6, 2018. Deepavali symbolises the spiritual “victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance”. Deepavali in Malaysia has become part of the country’a Malaysians culture, where people of all races and religions get together for open houses, fireworks and the savouring of Indian delicacies.

Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur organised a Deepavali dinner to share the lights and blessings of this year with 50 orphans and underprivileged kids from Sweet Care Welfare Society in Selayang. The hotel lobby is decorated to mark the celebration, at the same time showcase Indian culture of beautiful kolum, banana trees, thoranam (mango and coconut leaves decoration), clay lamps and fairy lights to brighten the space.

The kids and VIP guests are welcomed with the Dhol played by Gursewac Singh from Dhol Crew Malaysia. Dhol is a very popular folk drum from the Punjab state in northern India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. In Malaysia, it is often played by the

Sikh community during festivals and special occasions.

The event started with the lighting up of oil lamps by the VIP, followed by the children. Then the Dhol player accompanied everyone to Chennai@ Pacific, the Seri Pacific-owned Indian Cuisine Restaurant. There, every table was served with “laddu”, a famous Indian sweet.

The dinner started with a beautiful dance performance by Diversity, a group of young performers from Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan. The talented emcee-cum-performer, Vinod Sarna from Sai Production, performed a few songs and hosted games to the delight of the children. They are treated to the scrumptious Indian cuisines prepared by Executive Chef Steven and his dedicated team.

The Deepavali dinner ended with presentation of tokens of appreciation to Sweet Care Welfare Society, the VIPS and sponsors.

The VIPs and sponsors are Al-Zaara managing director Datuk Rasul Abdul Rahman, Dato’ Seri Dr Steven Mok of Great Metal Enterprise and Univisual Integrated Sdn Bhd managing director V. Kamalan. The children was transported back by Ultimolimo Tours and Transport Sdn Bhd, Seri Pacific’s limo partner.
