NSTP’s Fadzlena appointed Munsyi Dewan
KUALA LUMPUR: New Straits Times Press Education Vertical Content head Fadzlena Jafar has become the first media personnel to be appointed as a Munsyi Dewan by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP).
With 20 years of experience with Berita Harian, she joined 27 other Munsyi Dewan comprising educators, lecturers and linguists.
Fadzlena said the recognition was not just a personal achievement, but also an achievement of other editors and sub-editors of the newspaper, who had guided her in her journalism career.
“I’m not an expert in this field but through BH, I have learned a lot about the language since the newspaper emphasises the correct use of the Malay language in news writing.
“BH is well known for its education empowerment agenda, especially the Education pullouts, such as Didik for Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah candidates, Minda (for students sitting the Form Three Assessment), Skor (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) dan Varsiti for university students,” she said after the Munsyi Dewan accreditation ceremony in conjunction with DBP 2018 Innovation Day at Tun Syed Nasir Balai Budaya Hall here.
Present were Education Ministry deputy secretary-general (management) Mohamad Azhan Md Amir and DBP deputy director-general (policy) Datuk Abang Sallehuddin Abg Shokeran.
Fadzlena said she had to sit through several written tests and language-related presentations before being recognised as a Munsyi Dewan.
With the appointment, she is recognised by DBP as a special speaker and facilitator, and a source of reference on the Malay language. She will assist DBP in efforts to uphold the national language.
A Munsyi Dewan is a counsellor to students, teachers and the public, and part of the panel of DBP editors.
