KUANTAN: A total of 809 dengue cases were recorded in Pahang between January and Nov 3, with Kuantan contributing the highest number with 479 cases.

Data obtained from Health Department showed Temerloh recorded 98 cases, followed by Maran (38 cases), Jerantut (35), Bera (34), Pekan (32), Bentong (26), Lipis (23), Rompin (23), Raub (20) and one case reported in Cameron Highlands.

Three deaths were recorded, one each in Kuantan, Jerantut and Lipis.

State Health director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said there was a 47 per cent (701 cases) decline, compared with 1,519 cases recording during the same period last year.

“There was a 40.9 per cent decrease on active localities or dengue hotspots, with 26 locations were recorded, compared with 44 hotspots found last year.

“At the moment, there are two dengue outbreak localities, namely Taman Impianaku in Kuantan and Pulau Serai Housing Project for Hardcore Poor in Pekan,” he said at the state-level gotong-royong programme to combat Aedes in Taman Impianku here yesterday.

Dr Sha’ari urged the public to cooperate with staff from the department and municipal council during the fumigation (fogging) exercise.

“We also advise residents to conduct gotong-royong in their residential schemes in an effort to curb (dengue) outbreak.

“This is because all of us have the responsibility in reducing the number of dengue cases. Concerted effort should be carried out more frequently at residential areas,” he said.
