Much at stake for Jazeman and Co in Shanghai

- Fadhli Ishak

only four more rounds left this season, the World Endurance Championships (WEC) enters the business end of the competition at the Six Hours of Shanghai this weekend.

Malaysian trio Jazeman Jaafar, Nabil Jeffri and Weiron Tan (car No 37) are joint-second in the overall LMP2 class standings alongside Jackie Chan DC Racing teammates Gabriel Aubry, Ho Pin Tung and Stephane Richelmi (car No 38) on 86 points.

The title race is still wide open as they are just one point behind championship leaders Andre Negrao, Pierre Thiriet and Nicolas Lapierre (car No 36) of Signatech Alpine Matmut.

Jazeman, Nabil and Weiron will be looking to consolidate their maiden victory in the series at the Six Hours of Fuji last month.

“There’s nothing else but to stay focused and keep the consistency going. The championship fight tightens up and we cannot afford to make any mistakes. It’s an important ‘home’ race for the team and we need big points,” said Jazeman.

“It is super close in LMP2 this season and what we have seen is a really tough fight at pretty much every point of the championship so far.

“As a team, Weiron, Nabil and I are still learning so much but the good thing is that we are showing great pace and now some consistency, so it is all to play for.”

The Jackie Chan DC Racing cars will be enjoying the backing of their home fans in Shanghai.

The trio, who are under the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) driver talent development programme, created history when they won Fuji as no allMalaysian driver car had won a race in the LMP2 class before.
