Nasir: ‘I really don’t know’

- Syafiq Aznan

of Selangor (FAS) “deputy president”, Datuk Muhammad Nasir Hamzah has said that he, too, does not know whether it is deserving or not for him to hold a post in the association.

Therefore, Nasir, who is also a former Kelantan FA (KAFA) vice president, is leaving his fate in the hands of Sports Commissioner, Datuk Zaiton Othman with regard to the decision as to who stays on to helm the beleaguered association, which should be known in about two weeks.

Nasir said that it was never his intention to go against the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, as he only wanted to help the troubled association and the Red Giants in making a comeback to being one of the most feared teams in the country.

“If possible, I want to help FAS and coincidentally the group (gang of 52) invited me, and it is understood that they have the right to call for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), although I am not aware about the technicalities of it.

“Whatever it is, it is better if we leave it all to the Sports Commissioner. After that, then only do we think of the next step.

“My stand is clear, whereby if the Sports Commissioner’s decision does not favour us, I will in a ‘gentleman’s’ manner, step down in accordance with the rules that have been set,” he said when met during the final of the Raja Muda of Selangor Cup at the state government’s secretariat’s field here earlier yesterday.

At the same time, Nasir also stressed that he has not been used by any party or side when nominated for the association’s No 2 post.

“It is very difficult for me to comment on this matter. They came to me and explained that it could be done, so I had no problem with it because I could still contribute.

“For me, let’s just forget about this. If possible I want to help the team even without a post or position it’s fine by me,” stressed Nasir.

Earlier, Nasir was chosen as FAS’ new deputy president by 52 affiliates during the “illegal” EGM that took place at a hotel in Seri Kembangan on Nov 8.

However, Tengku Amir Shah did not validate the outcome of the said EGM as it was done without his consent.
