AROCK legend in his own right, Datuk Mohamad Shukri Shahabudin, better known as Datuk Hattan, is also a respected judge in talent reality shows. The veteran musician will be serenading fans in a mini concert titled Konsert Datuk Hattan Biso Bonar at G Tower Hotel, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

Born on Dec 21, 1964 in Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan, Hattan is best known for Memburu Rindu his 1991 hit single which was written and composed by Datuk M. Nasir. He began his career as the vocalist of rock group FRU in 1987, and his manly vocals featured prominently in its debut album, Kelahiran in 1988.

Hattan subsequently went solo, and to date he has recorded 11 studio albums, beginning with Nostalgia in 1987.

Besides Memburu Rindu, Hattan’s popular songs which became chart-toppers include Mahligai Syahdu, Dari Kekasih Kepada Kekasih, Rendang Tak Berbuah, Rindu Bertandang Lagi, Rona-Rona Cinta and Biso Bonar, which is his most well-known song in the Negri Sembilan dialect.

He has thrice qualified for Anugerah Juara Lagu, TV3’s annual music awards show: in 1991 with Memburu Rindu, in 1992 with Mahligai Syahdu and in 2014 with Gadis Jolobu, a duet with Rembau-born hip-hop singer Waris.

As a composer and lyricist, Hattan has come up with the songs Michelle and Misteri Kasih for the rock group Kris in 1993, and Aku Tahu Aku Rindu for spiritual pop singer Nora Ariffin in 2001.

Hattan participated in TV3 reality show Mentor 1 in 2005, mentoring an aspiring singer Alynn Lajis. He also became a permanent judge of Astro Ria’s Akademi Fantasia in its sixth to ninth seasons, and the principal of its 11th season in 2014.
