LEADERS’ RESIGNATIONS

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said he has no plans to leave the party.

He, however, admitted that there was a meeting between Umno leaders, including himself, and Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

A photo of the meeting had gone viral.

“We discussed national politics and the struggles of Malays and Islam.”

He said at the meeting, there were suggestions to unite Umno and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

However, he said, no decisions were made.

“I have my own stand. I will not leave Umno,” he told the New Sunday Times.

Others in the photo, which was taken in October, are Tanjung Karang member of parliament Tan Sri Noh Omar, Umno treasurer Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

Hamzah on Friday announced his departure from Umno with five others.

On calls by leaders, including former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, for Zahid to step down, Mohamad said it was their right as party members to do so.

Without mentioning if he supported or rejected the calls, he said: “It is up to the party’s central committee, Supreme Council members or the president to bring the motion forward.”
