JOINING Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) will not protect a wrongdoer from legal repercussions, said its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the party’s supreme council would reject applications based on valid reasons.

He said these included the applications of those involved in corruption, abuse of power and criminal cases.

“PPBM does not have any restrictions on accepting any former members of opposition parties with the condition that they go through the vetting process and that they have regretted and realised they had supported a kleptocrat leader,” he said in reference to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who had been charged over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal.

“PPBM is not bound to offer them any positions,” he said in a statement on Facebook.

Muhyiddin said this policy applied to every individual interested in joining PPBM, including elected representatives from the opposition.

“The vetting process is done thoroughly by weighing their applications.”

It was reported that Muhyiddin had said PPBM was an open party and any individual aged 18 and above was qualified to become a member.

“As a democratic party, PPBM is ready to accept any members as long as taking them in is in line with our policies, rules and party mechanism.”
