THT aim to sweep the board
Hockey Team (THT) are aiming to dominate next season’s Malaysia Hockey League.
The club won the Premier League last season while Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) were champions in the TNB Cup.
Team manager Saberi Salleh wants his charges to win more trophies next season, especially the TNB Cup.
“We hope to win back the TNB Cup from UniKL. Based on previous records, THT were consecutive champions from 2014-16.
“We want to repeat that feat and regain our winning streak next season.
“A number of players have also indicated their commitment to the team. This includes the Saari brothers, Faizal and Fitri, along with our goalkeeper Hafizuddin Othman.
“As for import players, we haven’t finalised our list yet. We still have until Dec 21 to finalise our squad,” said Saberi yesterday.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Maybank, Nur Insafi, TNB Thunderbolts and Universiti Teknologi Mara make up the teams in the Premier League.
UniKL are also hoping to win the league title. Despite rumours that coach Arul Selvaraj has signed with THT, UniKL team manager Saiful Azhar Afandi confirmed that he will remain with the university side next season.
The Premier League will begin with the Charity Shield between THT and UniKL on Jan 11. The season ends on March 3.
In the women’s league, China’s Liaoning Hockey Club will make their debut in the competition. The other confirmed teams are KL Vipers, Police, SSTMI, THT, PKS Uniten and PSHA-MSSPP.
