Sathianathan on a glory mission for Selangor

- Ajitpal Singh

newly-appointed coach B. Sathianathan has big dreams for the 33-time Malaysia Cup champions.

With a mission to regain Selangor’s glory days, the former national coach hopes to lead the club to as many titles next season.

“It is not an impossible mission to win the Super League, FA Cup and Malaysia Cup in one season.

“A team who play with determination and confidence are capable of winning titles, so I want to turn Selangor into a winning unit next season.

“It is also about having the right attitude, and players need to remind themselves that they can win titles for the club,” Sathianathan, who left Felda United after guiding them to the Premier League crown last season, told Bernama recently.

The new-look Selangor have signed several notable players for the new season.

Among them are Faiz Nasir, Nuriddzuan Abu Hassan, Farizal Harun and Abdul Halim Saari.

The other new signings are Azreen Zulkafali, Latiff Suhaimi, Norhakim Isa and K. Prabakaran.

Goalkeeper Norazlan Razali, Azamuddin Akil, Joseph Kalang Tie, Abdul Halim Zainal, Shahrul Igwan, Fairuz Abdul Aziz and Razman Roslan were among those not retained.

Selangor have yet to announce their foreign signings. However, the former Super League champions are likely to retain last season’s top scorer Rufino Segovia of Spain.

Last season, Selangor did respectably with a limited budget.

They finished sixth in the league, reached the final of the FA Cup and made the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Cup.
