Tun Hakim hogs the limelight

Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam is slowly becoming a household name in Malaysian bowling.

The 19-year-old ended his season by finishing third at the Penang Pesta Internatio­nal Championsh­ips in Seberang Perai yesterday.

Indonesia’s Ryan Lalisang bagged the crown when he edged former national bowler Nur Aiman Khairuddin 211202 in the stepladder final.

Aiman defeated Tun Hakim 235201 in the first match of the stepladder finals.

Tun Hakim, who also finished third in last week’s The Masters in Bandar Sunway, is definitely enjoying his recent run in form and is hoping to get better next season.

“I am really satisfied with my performanc­e these past couple of months,” said Tun Hakim, who won the men’s doubles gold medal with Adrian Ang on his debut at the Men’s World Championsh­ips in Hong Kong early this month.

“It has been a brilliant end to the year, I can’t ask for anything more.”

With a promotion to the elite squad on the cards, Tun Hakim is raring to get the new season started.

“Focus and hard work are the essence to success. It’s about keeping your eyes on the goal and then taking those important steps towards completing it,” added Tun Hakim.

Ryan pocketed RM20,000 for his feat while Nur Aiman and Tun Hakim received RM15,000 and RM10,000, respective­ly.
