2 dead, 4 hurt in m-cycle pile up

SERI ISKANDAR: Two people were killed and four others injured, in a collision involving five motorcycle­s at Km40 of Jalan LumutIpoh here early yesterday.

The dead have been identified as Modenas Dinamik pillion rider Aidil Hakimie Abd

Latif, 19, who died at the scene; and Syed Muhammad Badrul Amin Syed Mohd Nasir, 23, pillion rider of a Yamaha 125Z, who died while receiving treatment at Changkat Melintang Hospital.

The five motorcycle­s involved in the 1.08am accident were a Modenas Dinamik, two Yamaha 125Zs and two Yamaha LCs. All five were en route from Durian Kudung to Bota. It is learnt that the accident occurred when one of the vehicles grazed another motorcycle, causing both riders to lose their balance and fall.

Riders behind the fallen motorcycli­sts were unable to avoid them and collided with the bikes.

The rider of the Modenas Dinamik, a 22-year-old soldier, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh.

A 20-year-old rider of one of the Yamaha 125Zs suffered a broken hand; a 25-year-old pillion rider of one of the Yamaha LCs suffered a broken leg; while a 21-year-old rider of one of the Yamaha LCs sustained minor injuries.

“The two bodies were sent to the Forensic Unit of the hospital for postmortem. The case is being investigat­ed under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said Central Perak police chief Superinten­dent Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.

“Our initial investigat­ion revealed that the motorcycli­sts were not involved in illegal racing activities and that they did not know each other.”
