Show proof that Pas received funds from Najib, says deputy president

-

KANGAR: Those who alleged Pas received funds from Umno need to show solid proof and not simply make wild accusations to divert public attention from a weak government.

Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the onus was not on the party to show any proof to any third party regarding allegations that it received funds from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He said the party tabled its financial statement every year during the Pas central committee meeting and submitted it to the Registry of Societies (RoS).

“I personally go through the party’s account every month and can verify that no funds were received. And now a new allegation is that Pas received RM2.5 million, instead of RM90 million as mentioned initially. The relevant parties can check with the RoS on this. They are the ones who should show proof on where the amount mentioned came from. I do not know how this thing started. I believe they are simply bringing up issues to divert public attention,” he said at the Maahad Tahfiz Imam Nawawi Complex here on Sunday night.

Yesterday, Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle Brown had dared Pas to show the party’s financial statement as proof that it did not receive funds from Umno, a news portal reported.

Commenting further, Tuan Ibrahim did not discount there were those who were unhappy with Pas-Umno cooperation of late.

“I reckon they feel threatened with this political understanding. They are actually trying to run away from a failed government (that they are a part of ). They are also trying to run away from a host of other issues.

“I would say if what they are claiming is true, they are welcome to investigate. We are ready.”
