Pahang land office team monitoring site

-

KUANTAN: The Pahang Land and Mines Office (PTG) has stationed an enforcement team to monitor illegal mining activities allegedly taking place near Tasik Chini.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said several government agencies had visited mining sites near the lake on Wednesday following reports of illegal mining.

He said a researcher, who was stationed near Tasik Chini, had complained on Feb 14 about the sudden increase in mining activities in the area, which were reportedly getting closer to the lake.

“The person also alleged there was a sudden movement of lorries transporting earth, believed to be iron ore, near the National Service Training Centre after 10pm daily.

“Following the complaint, officials from PTG, along with Department of Environment, Mineral and Geoscience Department, Forestry Department, State Secretary’s office and Pekan District and Land Office had gone to the National Service Training Centre on Wednesday evening. However, no mining activities or machinery were found at the site, but there were signs of land clearing and trees being felled,” he said yesterday.

Wan Rosdy said following a discussion, the government agencies decided that the relevant parties monitor the site and prepare a report on the alleged mining activities.
