Taekwondo Malaysia slam Selangor

-

Selangor (TNS) could find themselves suspended following their outburst for being barred from the national championships this weekend.

Taekwondo Malaysia (TM) acting secretary general R. Dhanaraj said TNS have been asked to get their house in order before they can think about being part of taekwondo at national level.

“Actually this issue has nothing to do with TM. There are two groups of people fighting for power within Selangor,” said Dhanaraj yesterday.

“We are stuck in the middle and do not want to take sides. What we did was send this to the Sports Commissioner’s Office (SCO) to investigate. They then advised TNS to redo their AGM.

“We received two sets of registrations for the national championships from two groups, both using the TNS letterhead. Group A (C.K Karan) had registered about 10 exponents while Group B (Dr T. Arasu) registered over 40.

“We cannot allow two parties representing the same state, thus we asked them to go back and get their house in order.

“They should take this seriously. We might even call for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) and in a worst-case scenario suspend them as they have tarnished our reputation.”

Dhanaraj rubbished TNS’ claims that barring them from competing in the national championships was a hindrance to the development of the sport.

TM had asked TNS to have their exponents compete under a premier club for the national meet.

“The registration for the competition had actually ended on Feb 18 but we extended it to Feb 21, 5pm to give the exponents time to compete under a premier club,” added Dhanaraj.

“We had also sent out a letter to premier clubs asking them to take in exponents from Selangor for this competition. A total of 15 out of the 19 premier clubs stated they were happy to do so. We have the letters to prove it.

“So there is no excuse to say that it is difficult to place them under a premier club or that there was not enough time.”

Dhanaraj is currently in South Korea interviewing potential kyorugi coaches to prepare Malaysia for the Manila Sea Games later this year. Only one coach will be selected.
