TNS IN DISARRAY
TM to probe whether Selangor had ordered their athletes against competing in the national meet.
TAEKWONDO Malaysia (TM) will conduct an investigation into the controversies surrounding Taekwondo Selangor (TNS). TM acting secretary-general R. Dhanaraj said TNS have tarnished the reputation of the sport in the country.
“We will be having an executive board meeting within 14 days, depending on the availability of our president (Azizul Annuar Adenan),” said Dhanaraj at the opening ceremony of the TM-NSC-Milo National Championships in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
“In that meeting, we will discuss what aspect of the (TM) constitution they have infringed on. This includes the press conference they had earlier this week.
“This issue has tarnished the sport’s reputation. This is bad because we are working hard to regain our core sports programme status.
“We will bring this case up and forward it to our independent disciplinary committee.
“They will study the case and then report to us. They will investigate whether Selangor had ordered their athletes against competing in the national meet.
“The athletes will likely be called up for interviews. TNS will face the music if they are guilty.
“They (both groups within Selangor) will have to get together and answer (to our disciplinary committee).”
Dhanaraj disclosed that the TM disciplinary committee will also decide on whether to punish TNS.
The national body had barred TNS, who are facing an internal power struggle, from having athletes competing under their banner for the national meet. TM demanded TNS settle their internal issues first.
TNS’ exponents are competing under premier clubs at the meet.
“We waited until the (registration) deadline on Thursday and saw that Selangor did not register anyone under premier clubs so we took the initiative to register their exponents under premier clubs. They were informed about it accordingly.
Meanwhile, former TNS president C.K Karan said he has called for an annualgeneral-meeting (AGM) for Selangor, which will be held on March 20.
Karan was ousted at last year’s AGM, which is now the centre of the issue.
“When we went to the Sports Commissioner’s Office (SCO), they instructed us to conduct the AGM again,” said Karan.
“I have already sent out the invitations which I signed off as the ‘2016-2018 term’ president.
“So, let’s see how many (affiliates) come. If the majority say they want to be with them (the other camp), then okay, no problem. What is important is that we do the AGM properly.”
Dr T. Arasu defeated Karan in last year’s AGM where none of the state-based premier clubs were allowed to vote.
Instead, four new state clubs, who were not sanctioned by TM, voted.
Following complaints from the premier clubs from Selangor, SCO investigated and advised TNS to re-do their AGM.
Arasu’s camp said they will conduct an EGM next month.
