Selangor show true grit in Kuantan

-

Selangor were expecting a thrashing from Pahang in Sunday’s Super League match at the Darulmakmur Stadium in Kuantan.

Instead, the former champions produced one of their best performances of the season to earn a 1-1 draw with Dollah Salleh’s side.

It was a disappointing result for Pahang as they are now two points behind Kedah and Johor Darul Ta’zim at third with eight points.

As for Selangor, it was their third draw after four rounds in the competition.

Pahang took the lead through Wan Zaharulnizam Wan Zakaria in the 34th minute before striker Rufino Segovia equalised for Selangor in the 61st minute.

Dollah was unhappy with his team’s second half performance.

“My players only played well in the first half. They lost concentration after the breather.

“It is always tough to play against a desperate team, and Selangor took advantage of our lapses in concentration. I am unhappy with the result. We should have won this match easily,” said the former national player.

Selangor coach B. Satiananthan was understandably satisfied with the draw.

“I reminded my players to play without fear, and not to make silly mistakes. It is a good result as we managed to earn a point against one of the favourites.

“I hope the players will build from this for the next match against Johor Darul Ta’zim,” said Sathianathan.
