THE long arm of the law is bound to catch you, sooner or later, as two suspects involved in a murder case 18 years ago found out last night.

Since 2001, police had been keeping tabs on new leads involving the suspects over a murder, which took place at the construction site of the Perak Tengah police district headquarters.

The suspects were an Indonesian man, 50, with Malaysian permanent resident status and an Indonesian woman, 49.

Last night, the duo were arrested at their rented home in Hulu Selangor.

Perak Tengah OCPD Superintendent Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the duo were detained to facilitate investigations into the murder of an Indonesian national.

He said in the incident at 5.45am on Aug 14, 2001, Rebin Sumadi Suwoko, 32, was found dead with slash wounds on the right side of the neck, back and waist, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon.

“Acting on new information, police officers went to the house and detained the suspects. The probe will be carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“Police sought a seven-day remand order against the two suspects at the Parit magistrate’s court this morning (yesterday),” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Zainal said initial investigations revealed that the motive behind the incident was suspicion and jealousy.

The male suspect suspected the victim of having an affair with his wife in 2001. She was running the canteen at the Perak Tengah police headquarters construction site.

“About midnight on Aug 14, 2001, the suspect and several friends arrived from Kuala Lumpur at his wife’s home at the construction site and began searching for the man believed to be involved in an affair with his wife,” said

Police have also taken a seven-day remand order against the two suspects at the Parit magistrate’s court this morning (yesterday). MOHAMAD ZAINAL ABDULLAH
