‘Pas, Hadi never paid RM1.4m to editor’

-

KOTA BARU: Pas and its president had never paid RM1.4 million to Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown.

Secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the party would study allegations made by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had made such a payment to Rewcastle-Brown to settle their case.

He added that Pas would check whether the Port Dickson member of parliament was lying or if the allegation amounted to slander.

Takiyuddin said Pas needed to study the claims thoroughly before taking action.

“Pas stands by its position that neither the party nor our president paid to any quarter.

“And Pas needs to study the case properly... the rest, I suggest that the press ask Anwar the motive for his action.”

Takiyuddin said this after attending a gathering between Pas leaders and the Chinese community here on Friday.

On he being called to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Takiyuddin said he went to the commission voluntarily after his name was listed among Pas leaders who were to be called by MACC.

“We (Pas) handed over the party’s bank statements dated from 2015 until December last year.

“MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull confirmed that there was no RM90 million in Pas’ account.

“Not only RM90 million, even one million is not in the account. So those who claimed that Pas had the money must accept that the money does not exist,” he said.

Hadi, in a Facebook post, urged the Pas leadership, members and supporters to seek God’s help in the face of continuous “multicornered attacks”.

He said those who were wronged would have their prayers heard by God without any obstacles.

“Have faith and be sincere in your struggles for Allah and Islam,” he wrote.
