Dumping of garbage irritates PPR residents

-

KUANTAN: Residents at the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Kampung Pak Mahat, Tanjung Lumpur here are upset over the dumping garbage by irresponsible parties at almost every corner of the flats.

Housewife Fatimah Mokhty, 36, said plastic bags containing rubbish were left scattered across the flats’ area, including the roadside and in the drains.

She believed it was the work of outsiders. There were also instances where they left behind broken furniture and electrical appliances, she added.

“We are concerned about health issues as the dirty surroundings might attract rats. There are dustbins in the area, but people choose to throw them on the road.”

Fatimah hoped the authorities would put up signboards to remind people to maintain cleanliness and not to turn the compound into a dumpsite.

ACTIONLINE:

The Kampung Pak Mahat PPR management head, Sairul Fauzi Sharif, said outsiders were the ones responsible for throwing rubbish and turning the area into a mess.

“Since the flats are not a gated community, anyone can enter the area. These people come and dump their rubbish here without using the provided dustbins.

“There are 3,000 people living here and we are responsible for the cleanliness inside the premises. The residents here usually cooperate with us and ensure the place is tidy.

“We hope residents who notice individuals dumping rubbish here will inform the management or take pictures so that action can be taken,” he said, adding that the flats are under the supervision of the Kuantan Municipal Council.
