Woman assaulted by dad with sledgehammer

-

IPOH: A 24-year-old woman, who suffered serious head injuries after she was hit by her father with a sledgehammer yesterday, is reported to be in stable condition.

Kerian district police chief Superintendent Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said the woman was receiving treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

“She is recovering. We are still investigating the motive behind the incident,” he said when contacted yesterday.

It was reported yesterday that police received a call from the Parit Buntar Hospital saying that a woman was hit by her 58-yearold father at their home in Parit Sungai Melan, Parit Buntar.

In a statement yesterday, Omar said initial investigation revealed the incident happened between 5.30pm and 6.30pm when the father returned home from work.

“At the time of incident, the woman was reciting the Quran when her father suddenly started hitting her on the head several times using a sledgehammer. The man who regretted his action, then began hitting his own head against the wall,” he said, adding that urine tests on the man turned out negative.

Investigation revealed that the father was frustrated when his daughter was unemployed after completing her studies at a university.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
