Divers miss out on medal in Beijing
divers ended their campaign in the second leg of the World Diving Series empty handed in China yesterday.
The final day of the competition saw Pandelela Rinong finishing just out of the medals in fourth in the women’s 10m platform individual final at the National Aquatics Centre in Beijing.
The Sarawakian scored a 63.00, 62.35, 67.20, 70.40 and 67.20 series for a 330.15 total score.
China clinched a one-two in the discipline with Zhang Jiaqi emerging victorious on 400.05 and Ren Qian (371.20) coming in second. Canadian Meaghan Benfeito, who scored 336.40, completed the podium.
Pandelela had yesterday won her semifinal group with a score of 326.95.
She had earlier in the tournament paired with Nur Dhabitah Sabri in the 10m platform synchronised where the duo had also finished fourth.
The mixed 10m platform synchronised event yesterday witnessed Leong Mun Yee and Nazirul Hanis Jaya Surya settling for seventh in the final from as many pairs.
The pair scored a 48.00, 47.40, 53.76, 61.20 and 56.64 series for a 267.00 total.
China’s Lian Junjie and Si Yajie took the gold on 346.38 while Russian duo Nikita Shleikher-Iuliia Timoshinina came in a distant second with 301.26. Canadian’s Nathan Zsombor-Murray and Meaghan (300.96) completed the podium.
The opening round of the world series was held in Sagamihara, Japan last week. The third round of the world series will be held in Montreal, Canada on April 26-28.
