Traumatised Nazril screams if left alone

-

SHAH ALAM: Mohd Nazril Hisham Omar has been left so traumatised after being wounded in the mosque shooting in Christchurch that he wakes up screaming if left alone, even for a little while.

His wife, Dr Zurinawati Mohi, said this was likely triggered by the presence of police officers in the hospital where Nazril was recuperating.

Before this, he had been calm and collected, she said.

“Just now, my husband was screaming and calling for me, even though I had only left him for a while.

“I realised my husband has been very afraid since noticing the policemen at the hospital.

“I think this is because the gunman who attacked the mosque on Friday was wearing what seemed like a police uniform,” she told Berita Harian.

Zurinawati, a lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Mara’s Tourism and Hotel Management Faculty in Puncak Alam, said Nazril was expected to undergo a third operation today to treat his kidney, believed to have been perforated after being hit by a bullet.

“The big toe on his left leg was also badly damaged as it was hit by a bullet fragment in the incident.

“He underwent surgery to save his leg earlier.”

She said she and the couple’s second son, Muhammad Haqiem Daniel, were staying with Nazril at the hospital, adding that her husband’s elder brother had arrived in Christchurch.

In Pasir Mas, Nazril’s family said they were conducting prayers for him and other Malaysians in Christchurch.

Nazril’s sister-in-law, Rosimah Abdul Rashid, 57, said she and her family began the prayers soon after they found out about the incident.

“The incident has shocked all of us. I was told by Nazril’s wife that her husband is traumatised.

“The only thing that we can offer from here is our prayers to seek Allah’s protection for our family members there and for Malaysians affected by Friday’s attack,” she said at her home in Kampung Kiat.
