JOHOR RULER’S STEPMOTHER LAID TO REST
She is buried along the same row as her late mother, Che Puan Hajjah Fatima
THE body of Tengku Zanariah Tengku Ahmad, the stepmother of Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, was buried at the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum here about 2pm yesterday.
She was buried along the same row as the grave of her mother, Che Puan Hajjah Fatima.
Before the funeral, talkin and tahlil readings were performed by Johor mufti Datuk Yahya Ahmad.
Tengku Zanariah’s body was brought to the mausoleum by Sultan Ibrahim’s private ambulance.
Accompanying her remains were Sultan Ibrahim and his consort, Permaisuri of Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah.
Present at the mausoleum were Johor Princess Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim.
Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian was also present at the mausoleum.
Earlier, Tengku Zanariah’s body was placed at the Balai Mengadap Istana Bukit Serene before the burial. Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah visited the palace to pay their respects.
Apart from the king, Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail and his consort, Raja Perempuan Perlis Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid also paid their last respects.
Tengku Zanariah’s death was made known through a post on Sultan Ibrahim’s Facebook page and Instagram account where a picture of her and the words “Al Fatihah” was posted at 8.10am yesterday.
