RECOVERING AFTER 3RD OP
Nazril has started physiotherapy, but still traumatised
MOHD Nazril Hisham Omar, 46, who sustained gunshot wounds in the Friday terrorist attack on mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, is recuperating well after his third surgery on Tuesday.
His wife, Associate Professor Dr Zurinawati Mohi, 48, told the New Straits Times that he had commenced physiotherapy sessions yesterday.
When asked if Nazril required further medical procedures after this, Zurinawati said she was not sure as her husband was weak.
“He is traumatised by the incident and has difficulty sleeping because he does not want to be left alone.
“He wants to be accompanied all the time. If he notices that I am not by his side, he gets restless and starts looking for me,” said the Universiti Teknologi Mara Puncak Alam lecturer.
Zurinawati said her family was thankful for the moral support from local and Muslim communities, including Australia’s grand mufti and imam, who came to visit him.
“They prayed for my husband’s health. There were those who came with zamzam water and gave us strength with words of encouragement.
“It feels just like home.”
She said she met the family members of the other victims at the same hospital.
It has been six days since Mohd Haziq Mohd Tarmizi, 17, disappeared following the attack.
Haziq’s father, Mohd Tarmizi Shuib, 42, and another Malaysian, Rahimi Ahmad, 39, suffered gunshot wounds and are hospitalised at Christchurch Hospital. They are reported to be in stable condition.
The list of deceased is expected to be released soon. According to New Zealand’s Privacy Act 1993, the authorities are required to inform family members of the deceased victims before the list can be released.
The attacks on the Al Noor Mosque and the Linwood Avenue Mosque left 50 dead and dozens injured. The shooting took place shortly before Friday prayers.
