Two teens in Nazrin murder case out on bail
SHAH ALAM: Two teenagers who were charged with murdering Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan have been released, both on RM50,000 bail.
High Court judge Datuk Ab Karim Ab Rahman made the decision yesterday after allowing an application by the teenagers’ biological father.
Karim, in his decision, said the teenagers, aged between 14 and 17, would not abscond.
“Allowing bail for underage accused charged with murder is normal.
“Considering the family background and their academic achievements, the court believes both of them would not repeat the same offence or disturb the prosecution witness.”
He said the duo needed to have two different sureties who were not family members who would testify in the trial.
“They have to report to the nearest police station every week,” he said, adding that the court also imposed a curfew order on them from 6pm to 6am.
On March 4, the duo were jointly charged with Nazrin’s widow, Samirah Muzaffar, with the murder at the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court.
According to the charge sheet, the trio, together with Indonesian national Eka Wahyu Lestari, who is at large, allegedly committed the crime at the family’s house in Mutiara Damansara, Selangor, between 11.30pm on June 13 and 4am on June 14 last year.
Nazrin’s death was initially thought to have been caused by an explosion of his mobile phone that led to a fire in the bedroom.
However, the case was reclassified as murder after Fire and Rescue Department investigations found traces of accelerant in the bedroom.
Police detained Samirah, her ex-husband and other people as part of the investigations into Nazrin’s death.
They were released after being remanded for a week.
Nazrin’s remains were exhumed for a second post-mortem.
Police have remained tightlipped about the results of that postmortem.
