CITY Hall is taking steps to help Ramadan bazaar traders by adding 119 trading lots in Jalan Raja. “The addition of 119 trading lots will allow more traders to set up stalls during Ramadan,” said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.

“They can apply to City Hall via online or come to the office.

“We listened to their feedback, that’s why we want to accommodate them in the best way we can,” he said after launching the logo for the Kuala Lumpur World Book Capital 2020 campaign at Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.

He said the current number of lots at Jalan Raja was 225. With the new lots, City Hall would contact traders who were unable to secure a lot. He said there were 4,272 bazaar lots registered

with City Hall.

City Hall’s Socio-Economic Development executive director Datuk Ibrahim Yusoff said City Hall would contact traders who were not successful in the previous draw.

“Those who did not succeed from the previous draw will be contacted or they can also contact City Hall for a chance to get a spot.

“We wish them the best of luck,” he said.

Khalid said previously that traders obtained their lots through their respective associations, but they now had to deal directly with City Hall.

“This move is not meant to kill traders’ associations, but to ensure a fair allocation of sites for the bazaar.

“We are working with the associations and giving them the authority to manage 50 bazaar locations, where the traders need to pay them management fees for cleaning up and security.

“It’s a win-win situation for all parties — the associations and traders involved in the bazaar.”

He said the confusion on the Ramadan bazaar issue made it seem like there was flip-flopping on City Hall’s part.

“On this and any issue, City Hall is the only source of legitimate information.

“They (traders) can contact City Hall or come to City Hall and see the bulletin to get the correct information,” he said.

Meanwhile, the winner for the logo design, Sin Boon Seang, 24, walked away with a RM3,000 cash prize.

The graphic designer from Penang said he was happy to win the competition. His logo will be used for KL World Book Capital campaign.
