‘Bus was fast, there was screaming and shouting’

-

A Nepali survivor of the fatal bus crash here on Sunday night has alleged that the bus was being driven at high speed at the time of the incident.

Lokendra Bahadur Shari, 27, said he thought the bus was going way too fast, and then, the next thing he remembered was the screams and shouts for help from his colleagues.

“We fell on top of one another as the bus plunged into the storm drain. I barely remember anything, just that we fell in a stack, one on top of another, and there were lots of screaming and shouting.”

Lokendra, who has been working in Malaysia for four years, said this at the KLIA police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department, where he and another survivor, Imran Hossain, 22, were having their statements recorded.

“It was just like any other working day... we got on the bus. There wasn’t anything wrong with the bus when we got on it,” he said.

Lokendra and Imran suffered minor injuries to their heads which required stitches. They were given outpatient treatment at Serdang Hospital.

Imran, a Bangladeshi who had worked in Malaysia for 10 months, only, said he was traumatised.

“I never thought I would lose all my friends in an instant,” he said.

At press time, police have recorded statements from seven survivors.

Twelve people, including the Malaysian bus driver, were killed in the incident which occurred at 11.10pm on Sunday near the MASKargo Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
